The Simcoe Retreat
Located in the open landscapes of Georgina, Ontario, this residence is an exercise in duality and environmental connection. The architecture is defined by the intersection of two primary volumes: a solid rustic brick base that anchors the house to the site and a superior volume clad in black standing seam metal, inspired by the silhouette of traditional Canadian barns.
At the heart of the project lies a minimalist internal courtyard featuring a solitary birch tree. This architectural void not only floods the interior with natural light but also creates a private microclimate, shielding inhabitants from Northern winds while maintaining a constant visual link to nature. The interiors, defined by polished concrete and warm oak joinery, reinforce an "atmosphere" of calm and curated order.
