The Rosedale Monolith

PROJECTS

Set within the historic and leafy enclave of Rosedale, Toronto, The Rosedale Monolith is a bold departure from traditional estate architecture. The project is an exploration of raw materiality, featuring a structural rhythm of board-formed concrete and weathered cedar cladding. This deliberate choice of materials allows the residence to age gracefully, eventually mirroring the silver and grey tones of the surrounding forest.

The architectural composition consists of two primary volumes that seem to float over a transparent ground floor. By utilizing expansive glass curtain walls and an open-concept plan, the "atmosphere" is one of weightless luxury. The interior spaces are anchored by a monumental board-formed concrete fireplace and seamless basalt flooring, creating a continuous flow from the gourmet kitchen to the private poolside terrace. It is a home designed not just for living, but for quiet observation of the shifting light and shadows of the ravine.
