Dark Oak
Residence
Nestled in the lush canopy of Forest Hill, Toronto, The Dark Oak Residence is a study in verticality and material contrast. The residence rises among century-old oaks, utilizing a sophisticated palette of blackened timber (Shou Sugi Ban style), charcoal slate, and expansive glazing to blur the boundaries between the urban interior and the forest-like ravine setting.
The architectural language is defined by dramatic cantilevered rooflines and a staggered floor plan that follows the natural slope of the site. Inside, the "atmosphere" shifts to a moody, monastic luxury: textured stone walls meet warm walnut ceilings, creating a sanctuary of shadow and light. Each room is strategically oriented to frame the surrounding foliage, transforming the changing seasons into the home’s primary artwork.
