Casa Celosía

PROJECTS

Located in the sun-drenched valley of Cocoyoc, Morelos, Casa Celosía is a masterclass in environmental adaptability. The architecture is defined by a rhythmic series of operable timber shutters (celosías) that wrap the concrete and glass structure. These kinetic elements allow the inhabitants to manually "tune" the house—controlling solar gain, airflow, and privacy throughout the day in one of Mexico’s most luminous regions.

The layout is organized around a central courtyard and a series of expansive decks that lead to a private pool, embracing the outdoor-living culture of Morelos. The material palette is intentionally raw and honest: exposed concrete frames provide thermal mass, while the warm cedar of the shutters and deck creates a soft, domestic "atmosphere." When fully opened, the house becomes a transparent pavilion that breathes with the surrounding tropical garden; when closed, it transforms into a silent, monolithic wooden box.
